Are you supporting someone with a mental illness? The Support Person Information Guide provides information to support you in caring for someone with mental illness, mental health issues and/or substance use.

Alcohol and Other Drugs Service Resources

Alcohol and Drug Information Service (ADIS)

Provides a safe, anonymous and confidential space for Queenslanders experiencing alcohol and other drug concerns and those supporting them to receive information and explore options for support and treatment. Offer a range of online resources and experienced and understanding counsellors are available 24/7 to provide over the phone counselling, advice on specific substances, strategies for supporting someone, treatment options and offer referral information for things such as; counselling, detox, rehab and opioid treatment.

Family Drug Support Australia (FDS)

Founded by a parent whose son experienced drug dependence. FDS provides a range of information, resources and supports for those affected by another person’s drug use. Family support meetings are held regularly in Mackay. Meetings are open to anyone and provide opportunity to talk and listen to others in a non-judgemental and safe environment.

Alcohol and Drug Foundation (ADF)

ADF is an independent, government funded service committed to inspiring positive change and delivering evidenced-based approaches to minimise alcohol and drug harm. Offering numerous online resources, information and a free confidential phone or email service where you can speak to someone about alcohol and other drugs and how you can best support either yourself or someone you are concerned about.

Lives Lived Well

Provides a holistic, compassionate approach for people in QLD and NSW communities who are impacted by alcohol or other drugs. Offering numerous online resources and information and a free over the phone counselling service. Additionally there are local services available in Mackay and surrounding districts offering a variety of face to face supports; alcohol and drug counselling, group sessions, day withdrawal support and day rehabilitation.
