Mackay HHS Workforce Strategy 2026 - 2035

The Workforce Strategy provides a future-focused framework to ensure we have the right people, with the right skills, in the right places to deliver high-quality care for our communities

The strategy has been shaped by extensive consultation with employees across MHHS. We heard the need for clearer career pathways, stronger leadership, greater visibility of workforce initiatives, enhanced wellbeing support, and evidence that employee feedback leads to action. These insights have directly informed the workforce strategy's priorities.

Our workforce strategy is built around four pillars:

  • Build on our identity – Create a values-aligned organisational identity and employee value proposition that drives culture, experience, and pride in the MHHS brand.
  • Build on our pipeline – Establish long-term workforce sustainability through educational and community partnerships, early career development and strategic supply planning.
  • Build on our sustainability – Develop a skilled workforce that can confidently deliver sustainable care through innovation, workforce planning, technology, budget stewardship, and evolving models of care.
  • Build on our wellbeing – Prioritise positive psychosocial health and safety, cultural safety, employee recognition, inclusion, and engagement.

Importantly, this workforce strategy builds on the strong foundations already in place across Mackay HHS. It aligns with our Strategic Plan and brings together workforce priorities under a shared direction to support our people and our organisation into the future.
