Maternity Co-design Project

Welcome to the Mackay HHS Maternity Co-design Project. Every year we provide maternity care to more than 1500 women living in a wide area spanning St Lawrence to Sarina, Mackay, west to Moranbah, Dysart and Clermont and north to Proserpine, Bowen and Collinsville.

The health service is looking to enhance this care and to partner with maternity consumers as we do this. To prepare for the co-design project we need to understand the best ways to engage with consumers. Co-design means we listen to your voices and experiences and work in partnership to design maternity care.

Hearing about your experience will help shape maternity care to ensure we meet the needs of pregnant women, expectant parents and their support people.

Who are we listening to?

If you have accessed our maternity services, plan to use them or have an interest in maternity care (for example service providers and community groups), we want to hear from you. This includes our consumers, community members, our staff and other health professionals who live in the region.

We also want to support people to be able to participate in a range of ways so that everyone has an opportunity to contribute to the project, including our First Nations, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse, LGBTIQ+, young and rural and remote consumers, and people who live with a disability.

A phased approach to engaging with you

We are at the beginning of our engagement which will happen in three phases. Phase one commences from 4 April and is about hearing how you would like to participate in the co-design project when it launches in phase two. Phase three involves closing the feedback loop and sharing the outcomes of phase two with community and staff.

We want to:

  • connect with all maternity consumers no matter where you live in the health service and encourage you to register with the project
  • provide information on the phases and timelines.

When phase one is complete we will review the feedback we have received and that will feed into planning for phase two which will be the start of the co-design opportunity.

How to get involved

Complete our survey

In preparation for the Maternity Co-design Project we want to ensure our connection, communication and engagement with consumers and community is broad and reaches the whole of our community. Please complete our community survey to help us understand how best to connect with the community, ensuring we respond to local needs and provide as many opportunities as possible to contribute to the Maternity Co-Design Project.

Keep informed

This website will provide project information such as regular updates, information on engagement activities and how you can be involved.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Got a question? Check out our frequently asked questions (FAQs).

What is phase one of the project?

Phase one focuses on preparing a strong foundation for how we will engage with consumers, community and staff when we are ready to commence the co-design of maternity care in phase two.

This first phase will assist in the development of a Stakeholder Engagement Plan which outlines how our consumers, community and staff want to be engaged. The Stakeholder Engagement Plan will underpin the engagement and consultation processes undertaken in phase two when we commence the Maternity Co-Design Project.

Who can engage?

We are very keen to connect and engage with our maternity consumers past, present and future as well as services providers, community groups and other organisations. Anyone can register here https://forms.office.com/r/U0XTASdB50

Is phase one about the co-design of maternity care?

No – phase one is about creating a shared understanding for how all stakeholders want to participate in the co-design project when it commences later in phase two. Phase two is focused on developing opportunities for engagement with the whole of our community. Engagement on co-design of maternity care will only happen in phase two.

What are the aims of phase one?

This first phase is very much about:

  • Connecting with our maternity stakeholders across the wide geographic footprint of the HHS and across the diversity of our community
  • Identifying and connecting with our stakeholders to understand the best ways for us to engage with them during the project
  • Offering ways for you to be involved to represent your part of the Mackay HHS, such as our Consultation Champions

How can I stay in touch?

Keep an eye on this website and on our Facebook page for project updates.
