Our Intensive Care Unit at the Mackay Base Hospital includes 9 beds.
It is a specially staffed and equipped unit in the hospital which provides 24hr care for patients with life threatening or potentially life threatening conditions from our highly trained team. Sometimes admission to ICU is planned such as after major surgery; however it may also be unexpected.
Nurses, doctors and many other health professionals who are involved in caring for the patient use a team approach.
Patients may be transferred to metropolitan hospitals for care and management that we cannot provide at the Mackay Base Hospital.
Immediate family only and we request that only two people may visit at any one time.
Children are welcome to visit under adult supervision at all times.
No visitors between 8.00am and 11.00am
Please check in with reception before entering the ICU.
After hours – please use the intercom provided in the ICU reception area.
